Anyway, in the last few months (!!) since I updated (if you could even call that last one an update), I have written two full drafts, and am currently halfway through another. The first of the three will likely never see the light of day. The other two will eventually appear under a pen name (which has not been finalized, so that's why I'm being intentionally vague).
I've been using slightly different techniques with all of these drafts. The reason why I'm pretty sure I messed up the first of the three was because I was trying to force it to match story beats, and it just was not working. At all. I got so focused on it matching precisely that the actual story itself started to suffer. Some people can use a beat structure - I appear to not be one of them. I ended up halting that draft at about 40k.
The second one was basically pantsed, but it needed a fair amount of editing to expand it. It still needs a bit more editing, which means that it'll delay its release by a few months. There's something wrong with it, but I can't figure out what it is yet. Probably because the conflict part is a bit of a mess and needs to be clarified. Anyway, that draft is at about 62k. (So yes, about 100k in the span of two and a half months.)
The third is... going okay! Actually, it's going too well and that's making me nervous. I clearly must be doing something wrong. And I'm trying to outline it, but I have no idea how well I'm going to keep up with the outline. It's like semi-pantsing. Shortsing?
And in other news (because my life is boring):
- I have read over 85 books so far this year. I am definitely making up for lost time, because while I was at university, most of what I was reading was either for class or research purposes.
- that Titans trailer was 2edgy4me. I generally don't keep up with the television versions of my favourite DC characters because trying to keep continuities straight in my head is... not fun (and it's hard enough with the comics), but this one is pretty far towards the bottom now (I'm sorry, there is only so much grimdark edginess I can take these days), unless someone tells me that it does, in fact, improve. However, they did do a good job on Robin's costume.
- somewhat related to the above: I finally saw Justice League and I... did not hate it.
- one of these days I will actually change my Twitter image (which is the same as here). It will not be today.
